This year, three students of the University of Chicago were shot to death, and two of these cases happened right in Hyde Park. These tragic events have triggered tremendous responses from students, faculty and the community. We no longer feel safe and secure living, studying, and researching on campus or in the neighborhood.
The safety and security of all aspects of our academic and personal lives are of vital significance. We are urging the university leadership to take stronger and more concrete measures to ensure the safety of the UChicago community and the Hyde Park neighborhood in general. Furthermore, we hope to build strength and unity among the traumatized members of our community and promote awareness of public safety in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
